On the retrial and redial phenomena in GSM networks

چکیده
GSM operators work with call data that include retrials and redials as well. Based on these inflated, virtual call attempt statistics, it appears that enormous demands are put on the available spectrum. In this paper, we develop simple models to estimate the expected number of retrials and redials per original call attempt, which is used to determine the effective load and the number of traffic channels required to meet the grade of service. It is shown that significantly fewer channels are capable of handling high

MEASUREMENT BASED REPLANNING OF CELL CAPACITIES IN CELLULAR WIRELESS NETWORKS The wireless telephony systems rely on the teletraffic theory to accommodate a large number of users in a limited spectrum. Because of the scarcity of the spectral resources, the number of channels is limited. Teletraffic analysis exploits the statistical behavior of the on-demand transmission access of users to a poo...
متن کاملBlocking Probabilities in Mobile Communications Networks with Time-Varying Rates and Redialing Subscribers
Call-blocking probabilities are among the key performance measures in mobile communications networks. For the analysis of these blocking probabilities, mobile networks can be modelled as networks of Erlang loss queues with common capacity restrictions dictated by the distribution of frequencies over the cells of the network. However, due to the time-varying load offered to the cells of such net...
متن کاملA TESLA-based mutual authentication protocol for GSM networks
The widespread use of wireless cellular networks has made security an ever increasing concern. GSM is the most popular wireless cellular standard, but security is an issue. The most critical weakness in the GSM protocol is the use of one-way entity authentication, i.e., only the mobile station is authenticated by the network. This creates many security problems including vulnerability against m...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Dedicated Signalling Channels in GERAN by Retrial Queues
GERAN (GSM-EDGE Radio Access Network) operators have traditionally used the Erlang B formula to estimate the number of signalling channels on a per-cell basis. Thus, it is assumed that the network behaves as a loss system with Poisson arrivals. However, the presence of automatic retrial mechanisms and correlated arrivals in these channels suggests that these assumptions might not be valid. This...
متن کاملComparison Density and Fractal Dimension of Drainage Networks in Different Scales and Precision Different (Case Study: Ilam Watersheds)
Every phenomena in the nature, despite the complexity of the subject, has certain rules and regulations. River pattern and behavior as one of the most complex natural phenomena to this is not an exception. Depending on geomorphologic, climatic, topographic and erosive conditions, the waterways exhibit different patterns and behaviors. One of the parameters which can be achieved using the comple...
